STILL wins the Red Dot Award: Product Design 2016

STILL’s EXV-SF high lift pallet truck scores points for high-quality design

The crowning conclusion of the Red Dot Award: Product Design 2016 took place at a glamorous prize-giving ceremony in front of 1,200 guests in Essen yesterday evening. This year’s participants from 57 nations entered around 5,200 products and innovations for this international prize for high design quality. STILL GmbH, Hamburg, was also among the competitors, and was able to record one of the coveted distinctions. STILL had convinced the jury with the innovative design of the STILL EXV-SF high lift pallet truck. The Red Dot Award: Product Design is presented as a seal of quality exclusively to products that are clearly outstanding through their excellent design.

STILL’s EXV-SF high lift pallet truck wins the Red Dot Award: Product Design 2016.

STILL’s prizewinning EXV-SF high lift pallet truck was designed specifically for narrow warehouse aisles: as slim as a Europallet and with rounded contours, the EXV-SF ensures impact-free, vibration-free driving due to an air-sprung, fold-up, stand-on platform for the operator. The unique, clearly structured, intuitively understandable colour display with icons and symbols for a variety of driving programs allows problem-free operation across language and cultural boundaries. The jury was also convinced by the smart innovation that combines safety with convenience: if the mast reaches a height of 1,800 mm, the display shows a message advising that the adjustable-height protective hoop guards should be folded in, or the existing initial lift must be retracted. The variable combi-tiller also increases the safety clearance distance, and the glass fibre reinforced, bevelled tiller head moves away to the left or right in the event of unintentional reversing. The machine also scores points with its intelligent customised touch recognition: the high lift pallet truck has ergonomic buttons that can be operated by left- or right-handed persons without any fumbling. The special feature of these buttons is a raised area for lifting and a recessed area for lowering.

With 41 experts from the whole world, chosen according to strict rules, the Red Dot Award: Product Design guarantees a high level of assessment competence: only freelance designers, professors of design and specialist journalists – but not designers employed by potentially participating companies – are appointed to the jury. The independent committee of experts judges every individual entry based on criteria such as level of innovation, formal quality, functionality and ecological compatibility. Professor Dr. Peter Zec, initiator and CEO of the Red Dot Award, says “Through their achievements, the Red Dot winners not only demonstrate extraordinary design quality but also show that design is an integral component of innovative product solutions.”

Dr. Henry Puhl, Chairman of STILL’s Management Board, explains that “We are very proud to have been presented with the coveted Red Dot Award: Product Design 2016. With the STILL EXV-SF high lift pallet truck, we have successfully achieved a symbiosis of ergonomics and design, which is the symbol for developments by the STILL company. The STILL EXV-SF proves that in addition to technical innovations, the design of a truck also contributes decisively to increasing safety, ergonomics and efficiency.”

The winning products will be presented in the special exhibition “Design on Stage” in the Red Dot Design Museum in Essen for a period of four weeks before they become part of the permanent exhibition.
