STILL supports children's and youth projects in Hamburg

15,000 euros for social institutions

This year, STILL is once again donating €15,000 to local projects that promote the development, education and integration of children and young people from socially challenged backgrounds in Hamburg: the Mittagskinder Foundation, the Wilhelmsburg Production School and the Kultur Palast Hamburg Foundation. STILL has a long-standing partnership with all three organisations that goes beyond financial commitment. For instance, STILL provides career guidance and helps young people enter the world of work.

For Hamburg-based STILL, supporting and mentoring young people is very important. That is why it has been supporting three local projects for many years, all of which are committed to providing children from disadvantaged backgrounds with equal access to education, culture and social interaction, in order to give them the best possible start towards a happy, successful and self-determined life: At the Mittagskinder Foundation, around 200 children in Hamburg regularly get a healthy lunch. They also receive care, a sense of community, and support with their homework. The Kultur Palast Hamburg Foundation has promoted cultural understanding through integrative music and dance projects for more than 40 years, and the Wilhelmsburg Production School is committed to equal access to education. To this end, it qualifies young people from disadvantaged backgrounds for entry into the labour market, particularly in metalworking, woodworking, catering, retail and hairdressing.

Personal contact, sharing of knowledge and practical assistance

STILL makes an annual donation of €5,000 to each of the institutions, which is handed over personally to the organisations' managers. The company also places great importance on regular personal contact and providing practical support for young people. Just a few weeks ago, STILL invited machine and plant operation apprentices from the Wilhelmsburg Production School to visit the company. During a relaxed get-together with STILL apprentices and training representatives, the young adults got to know each other personally. They then took a tour of the training workshop and factory, gaining exciting insights into STILL's training environments and programmes. Various paths and opportunities for orientation, qualification and career entry were also discussed – an exciting exchange from which both sides benefited, not only the apprentices, but also the trainers. "The aim of the joint meeting was to provide the production school's apprentices with a practical insight into the wide range of opportunities offered by industrial training programmes. In addition, interacting with our apprentices was a high priority. After all, who better to talk about training opportunities at STILL, training and qualification paths, and prospects, and to answer questions and address uncertainties, than people who are currently in a similar situation?" emphasises STILL Training Manager Jan Wehlen.
